17. World Cups were barely televised before 1978
I heard on NPR that the pentagon balck and white ball that we all know as the standard ball design was created FOR the 1978 World Cup- it showed spin better for TV watching. 1978 was the first time it was televised to any noticeable extent in Europe... which we all know is the market that every pays attention to (as if South America, Asia, and Africa don't exist)
