86. The Michigan-based ice dance team was the highest caliber American duo I've ever seen
In pairs or ice dance. Simply stunning.

I knew they were destined to silver on opening night. Ice dance is all about slotting, essentially predetermined. The only exception was Torino with all the wonderful spills. But this was a return to normalcy. The Canadian pair was extremely close to the Americans so they were guaranteed gold at home. You're not going to get the benefit of a doubt with Lysacek and then receive another coin flip in the same Games.

Now I feel awful for that pair since the next Olympics are in Russia. So they'll be slotted behind the top Russian pair of 2014, whoever that is, and also this Canadian team, should they continue. Regardless of quality, it's doubtful the Americans can win a gold medal unless they continue to 2018.
