ADA -- West Michigan power couple Dick and Betsy DeVos have endorsed Mike Cox in his bid for governor.
The couple released a joint statement Tuesday expressing their support for Cox, Michigan's Attorney General, in his pursuit of the state's top leadership position.

Dick DeVos unsuccessfully challenged Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm in the 2006 election. The Ada businessman and Amway Corp. heir now is president of The Windquest Group, an investment management firm based in Grand Rapids. His wife, Betsy, is the former Michigan Republican Party chair.

"We are enthused to support Mike Cox for governor. Cox has the right ideas, the right vision and a proven track record of making tough decisions," the couple said in a statement. "Michigan needs an independent common-sense leader like Mike Cox to lead our state forward through the challenging change needed."

Cox also won the support Tuesday of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, which represents around 6,800 employers and trade associations.

The chamber's board made its endorsement after interviewing GOP candidates Cox, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, state Sen. Tom George and U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, and Democratic candidate Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, President and CEO Rich Studley said. Republican businessman Rick Snyder of Ann Arbor and Democratic House Speaker Andy Dillon chose not to participate in the endorsement process.
