Adopt a soldier : Thanksgiving dinners but no soldiers

I heard this on CLTV which is part of The Chicago Tribune. I was unable to find the story online for some reason.

Every year for Thanksgiving families/VFW's/and other organizations in the Chicagoland area provide Thanksgiving dinner for soldiers who are far from their own families.

Apparently when the buses arrived to pick up the soldiers they were given a variety of excuses of why the soldiers could not go. Teeth getting pulled, sickness, and even quarrentine. Buses were sent away empty and the food prepared for the soldiers at many places was given to charities in the area instead.

Later a spokesman for the Great Lakes facility said it was a simple mixup.

I just thought this story was strange, and even stranger when I could not find a written article online.
