| 6. Because they only repeat what the Ayn Randers at the top of the party tell them to say. |

Don't get confused by all the controversies regarding abortion, guns or gay rights. The Republican Party is actually run by people of a very narrow interest--corporate 1% types who think the only purpose of government is to placate the very rich and the large corporations, because those are the only people who in their minds have "achieved" anything. Money equals achievement to these people, nothing more, and nothing less. How that money is earned is of no consequence.
But because these people are such a miniscule portion of the population who wouldn't otherwise be able to garner enough votes to win a city council seat, let alone houses of Congress or the Presidency, they need to dupe others into joining their movement, despite not wanting anything to do with them. So they exploit people's religious beliefs, they exploit people's sense of patriotism, they'll make subtle insinsuations that appeals to certain inate prejudices, anythign they need to do just so they can make sure they will get as rich as possible. And it truly is sad, because the people who are duped get nothing in return, and only find themselves seemingly voluntarily advocating against their own best interest.
Don't get this wrong: the most dangerous portion of the Republican party are the Ayn Rand types. From them everything else follows.
