This thread seems like a good one to share my primary story. I live in Oregon, we are a late Primary. My goals up until election day was getting people to vote Democratic, and to see the Primary race forced to come to Oregon, in order to register even more people. So, that means while most of the nation, and certainly DU, had a horse in the race, I had my stake on the race itself. Yes indeed, to those who were leaning Clinton, I promoted Clinton, and handed them buttons and registration forms. To those who leaned Obama, same thing. The point was 'Democratic Votes', not just for the Pres race, but for the downticket State Democrats. We elected all of them, including sending Merkley to replace Gordon Smith. So. While my CA friends were litterally screaming for it to be over, I was taking action to keep it rolling. What Clinton and Obama did with that long race brought us voters, brought other Democrats victory. My candidate in the Primary was the Democratic Party. And the voters of my district. In my opinion, the Primary was one of the best things to happen to our Party in ages, and it took two excellent candidates willing to work hard and not make a deal too early. It was to our benefit that they went to the wire. They were not my first or second choices. But both of them earned my respect by working that Primary so hard. I just wanted a Democratic President. Which ever one most of the others went with was fine with me. And I was utterly thrilled that it lasted so long and brought so much energy to this district, this State, which had not been visited by a Democratic Primary candidate since, I am told, RFK in 1968. In 2008, within 6 blocks of my house, Hillary, Bill, Chelsea, Joe Wilson, Obama, twice, Michelle at the headquarters, Neil Abercrombie, the list goes on and on. Right here, where not one Democrat had bothered in 40 years. It did much good. And we elected a Democratic President! Yippee! Either one would have been fine with me, both had things I was not crazy about, but both are good Democrats. I still love both of them for fighting that campaign like that. Funny that so many were demaning that one or the other drop out, yet all I wanted was for both to hang on until they had to come to Oregon and ask for votes.
