On one hand, it's such a refreshing change to have people with class and intelligence back in the White House, and it's new enough that you have to expect people to remain a bit giddy about this historic presidency.

At the same time, I do like to think we're better than the Bushies, and I am uncomfortable when gushing over the Obamas starts to look like the gushing over Bush that turned my stomach for 8 years, even if it is coming from and inspired by much better people. During inauguration week all that was inevitable and even kind of fun; but you know, we've known for quite some time that Michelle looks great and they all have class and brains and all that. Why act like this is a revelation?

But at this point, the best thing to do with "hero worship" threads one finds annoying is to skip them. It isn't hard. They're usually labeled rather unambiguously.

And despite what I said about edging close to equivalency with Freeper worship of *, at least DU Obama worship doesn't veer off in the direction of insane "God put this man in the White House" territory. (By which I don't mean there aren't folks who believe Obama is an answer to a nation's - heck, the world's - prayers, but that there's no sense of "divine right," no hint of the idea that every word and policy decision is blessed by a hotline to the Almighty. We're still going to look at what he does and judge it by the standards of the reality-based community.)
