90. a false and malicious idea
Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 03:38 PM by Two Americas
First, how would anyone know finally and ultimately whether or not they "were" a homophobe?" Thinking this way - that there are two teams, the homophobes and the not-homophobes - betrays a profound lack of understanding of the issue and a callous indifference and dismissal of those who are trying to enlighten and inform us about the issue here.

Secondly, it is a malicious and extremely destructive idea, one that is getting repeated over and over again here, that people are being gratuitously and continually labeled homophobes and that this is a problem, or that this is what the critics of the Warren invitation have been saying.

The accusation that people are abusing the word homophobe for nefarious purposes or to forward an agenda is itself a clever and deceptive way to gay bash and not be held accountable for doing that, just as the right wing "reverse racism" arguments are a clever way to bash people of color, and not be held accountable for doing that.
