I have joined a list called Atticus Circle, which sends out action alerts. I heard about them when I attended a local Camp Wellstone. Their mission: "Atticus Circle educates and mobilizes fair-minded straight people to advance equal rights for LGBT partners, parents, and their children. To accomplish our goal, Atticus Circle will focus its efforts on education and policy development."

I also attended a Houston Prop 8 protest and signed up on the list the organizers had. By being in the communication loop in multiple ways, I get notices for things I can participate in, such as calling and writing letters on specific issues, and showing up for public events. I admit I haven't done much on that yet, but I have just recently started. I have been to one event and written a couple letters.

I was also thinking of checking out the local PFLAG group.
