A grim milestone on this New Year's eve in 2006, as the US notes 3,000 dead in Iraq. Also, in light of the historic election of 2008, it's worth reading this excerpt from last year's New York Times; it's a moving wish for the new year (2007). Finally, a bushel of Bushisms, and a very nice, very relevant New Year's message from "the first American", Benjamin Franklin.
