Most black and white progressives are probably not at a level of rational and transrational cognition more typical of progressives thinking but instead are mirror opposites of the majority of conservatives. In other words they are not progressives because (as Colbert said) reality tends to lean liberal. They are progressives because of anger, or jealousy, or they were raised that way (and never questioned it to come to their own place) or any number of myriad reasons.

There are three typical mindsets:

Hell no (because I grew up believing this and have not questioned it.
Whatever the group wants (because we must do what is expected)
and Hell no (because we have rationally come to a decision for "hell no"(or "hell yes").

We must not fool ourselves into thinking that progressive inherently means open minded.
