Back in the day, real journalists would have, upon hearing a rumor about the questions re the documents, called Rather up and said, "Hey, buddy - this is what I'm hearing? Anything to it? Is your sourcing solid?" And Rather would have said, "Hey, man - I'm glad you called before you ran with anything. My story is solid as hell and I've got more. So keep your powder dry."

And that would have been the end of it. But in their haste to run with a bulls*it story, defend Bush and to try to get a journalistic coup on Dan Rather of all people, these dimestore media personalities - who don't know the first thing about real journalism - now look like damned idiots.
