That was part of it, and I think some of them were genuinely drawn to the John McCain that John McCain used to be. Hell, I was a HUGE fan when he denounced the "agents of intolerance" like Fallwell and Robertson. That was AWESOME.

And then he turned into a sad, pitiful caricature of himself and embraced those clowns. And it just got worse from there.
