No professional whether physician, dentist, barber, bartender, etc. should ever feel like they have to stand still and listen to someone else's bullshit just because they're trapped servicing the person. If a customer can't keep their personal crap to themselves without forcing those they do business with to listen they can take their business elsewhere and/or pay a shrink to listen to their shit. People need to learn to keep their offensive crap to themselves or get rightfully called on the carpet for it. The OP was paid to do her teeth not be subjected to the patient's offensive drivel. It's the height of rudeness to use a service professional/employee as a trapped personal audience. If people can't engage in polite civil conversations of inane nature while being serviced they need to keep their damn mouths shut.
