I fainted from a coughing fit, fell forward, and smacked my face on a terrazo tile floor (that's HARD).
Within a few hours I looked like a raccoon, but my eyes were no redder than they normally are.
The injuries in the photo certainly could be fake, I really don't know; but I do not agree that a "shiner" is always associated with red eyes.
