I was out trying to dig a new bed on that side of the house and the neighbors and several members of their extended family had apparently moved a heated argument outdoors. They were all in the driveway getting louder and louder.

They're all Republicans, and the gist of it was this: apparently nearly every female member of the family has switched to supporting Obama and nearly every male in the family was stroking OUT over this. They were yelling things like "IF YOU THINK IT'S BAD NOW, JUST WAIT UNTIL THAT FREAK IS IN THE WHITE HOUSE!"

The woman of the house (in her 50s) was crying at this point and her adult daughter was taking on her dad like it was no one's business, arguing vehemently that things will get BETTER not worse under Obama.

I realized I had completely stopped what I was doing and was just listening. The dad told the mom he would NOT support her in her choice and that she better start calling herself a "fucking Democrat from now on" and she was still crying. His brother is apparently the only guy in the family to have switched over, too, and he started taking up for the women, which just made things uglier.

I swear to God for about a minute or two, I thought it was going to get physical. The adult daughter was yelling in the dad's face, everything was chaos, and the last thing I heard (I *think* it was the woman's sister, but I wasn't looking) was a woman saying "well it's going to be Obama, so you might as well get used to it." That set off a fresh new batch of yelling and I went inside. It was stressing ME out to listen to it. (And you couldn't help but hear it. They could probably hear it halfway down the block.)

I had no idea there was THAT much tension in some families over this election. I did make a mental note to make sure the women in that house get to the polls, even if I have to take them myself. :)

But damn. They're taking a hell of a lot of grief to be Obama supporters. It made me appreciate the fact that in my house, everyone is on the same page.
