Yes, there are still plenty of racists here. Heaven knows I'm related to a bunch of them. But they are increasingly outnumbered by young people, middle class professionals, and people of all ages and walks of life who GET IT. I know conservative, white senior citizens who are diehard Obama fans. I know middle and upper middle class professionals who are voting Democratic for the first time ever. I know people who have never voted in their lives who took time off unpaid to go register this year.

Even the hardcore racists are lukewarm, at best, about McCain. A lot of them just won't take the time to vote. Sure, they hate Obama and everything he stands for, but they don't love McCain ENOUGH to take time out of their day to go vote.

I have never, ever seen this level of support for a Democratic candidate in this state.
