They don't say "We Republicans are better qualified" - they say the other side has no business running. The other side is criminal. The other side is un-American. The other side consorts with our enemies. The other side is at war with God. The other side shouldn't be in office - the other side should be in Gitmo.

The Democrats have never faced this squarely in my opinion, which is why it has taken the near complete destruction of our country at the hands of Republicans to bring Democrats back to power. We never defeated the Republicans so much as they defeated themselves.

Water way gone under the bridge you may say. But still it would be a mistake for the party not to address this head on. When the other side observes no limits in their attack on you, you can't be squeamish about how you reply.
