75. One thing to note about Barack vs Michelle is that fortunately
he doesn't carry the "baggage" that Michelle and many of the rest of us multigenerational AAs carry and often internalize - the numerous stories of past hurt, oppression, anger, frustration, and unfairness heaped upon our elders during their lives here in the U.S., and this then piles onto our own heart-breaking experiences in our lifetimes. And although the message of hope and patience and determination and resilience resonate from those same stories, it has been difficult to see the light at the end of the long dark tunnel.

Fortunately Obama's father didn't have that background nor did his mother. And this I think is why he can float above the nonsense so casually. This does not diminish the fact that he has his own negative experiences through life. But he's not weighed down by his family's history, and is thus able to rise up and lift the rest of us up with him.
