14. As a Californian...
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 01:00 AM by heliarc
I resent your insulting mention of us "thumbing our noses" at American cars... I know that in LA you will find an even break between the conspicuous consumer who favors a Hummer, Escalade, or Yukon and the trendy green driver who favors a Prius. The Prius is one of the few reasons GM is announcing more efficient hybrids and electric cars this next season, and when you realize that it is a Toyota you are also reminded that Toyota is one of the few companies that is CREATING manufacturing jobs in America... The Toyota Tundra is engineered and manufactured in North Texas...

The pressure we California democrats put on our A$$hole governor has set a new challenge for the American automaker to raise efficiency standards again and thrown the gauntlet at the foot of the rest of the nation to join the party...

After all. This is a free market. We better start competing. American cars are losing the fight, and we need to put pressure on our auto industry.

If you are worried about foreign cars you should look at DC... Republicans and Democrats alike are notorious for owning foreign cars in DC and owning American cars in their home districts.

There's no need to lie about this, but we have to fight a better fight that's for sure... and California has been fighting a better fight on a lot of issues. Including trucking rights... Rights for Gay and Lesbian Americans, and better food quality.

I'm a Californian Democrat, and I own a Honda Element... Why might you ask? Not because I thumb my nose at American cars, but because I looked at the Saturn and the Escape, and the dependability wasn't as good in consumer reports. It was more likely to break down, and the cargo space was better in the Element. I use my car for my work as an Audio Technician. A worker if you will. The free market made my decision for me... not my ego...

If we want to talk about the free market, than we shouldn't whine when we get beat at our own game.

Now I don't know what conventions you were watching, but the crowd at Invesco field looked a whole hell of a lot more working class than the crowd at the republican convention. It may not have been as Anglo, but it seemed a whole lot more down to earth to me.
