What is her pedigree?

Some of our Heath line, originally based in Bucks County, PA and Hunterdon County, NJ, were also wondering about Sarah Heath Palin's family tree.

During the 1800s, several twigs of our family scattered to California, Minnesota and other parts of the country. However, we have been able to trace and keep track of many of the descendants of Andrew Heath (c. 1665 - 1720) through the most recent generations.

Could Sarah possibly come from one of our migrating Heaths from PA and NJ?

See posts 4995, 5001, 5002, 4996, and 4998, in that order.

There is no Andrew Heath in that line, and none of her ancestors had residences in Pennsylvania or New Jersey.

I've been able to trace her Heath ancestry back to a Charles R. Heath who was born circa 1872 in Illinois and lived in Chicago where he was married first to Alice Addie Oriel, who died in 1902. Charles moved with his son Charles F., born 1901, to Los Angeles, CA between 1900 and 1910, and Charles F. removed to Sandpoint, ID in 1948. He was Sarah's grandfather.

Maybe somebody on this list can make the connection to Charles R. Heath, born ca 1872. I have not been able to find him in the 1880 census records. According to the 1900-1930 censuses, his father was born in Illinois and his mother was born in Vermont.

Do you have a name for Sarah's paternal grandmother (Charles R. "Chuck" Heath's mother)? I found a Charles Richard Heath that was born 24 March 1938 in Los Angeles Co, CA whose mother's maiden name was Brandt. Is this the right "Chuck" Heath?

That is the correct one. Charles F. Heath's wife was a Brandt and her father came from Brown County, MN to Los Angeles. The Brandts were originally from Mecklenburg, Germany (early 1800's).

Charles R. Heath was born in 1874 in Starke County, Indiana, the son of Jonathon Heath and Mary E., born in Crawford County, Ohio. Starke County is the third Indiana county east of Chicago, just east of Valparaiso, Porter County, Indiana.

The pedigree is Jonathon <Jonathon <John <Jesse (born 1759, Chatham, Massachusetts; married 1781, Sandown, New Hampshire; died 27 April 1839, Groton, Vermont).

I just discovered that Charles Heath was born in Knox County, IL, the son of James W. Heath and Elma Rhodes, and grandson of William Heath and Lucinda Field, great grandson of Sidney Heath and Phebe Foster of Washington County, NY.

Maybe somebody on the list can make a connection with these names -- they are all ancestors of Sarah Heath Palin.

http://www.familysearch.org has Sidney Heath (born 15 February 1791, in Washington County, New York; married 10 September 1811; died 19 October 1859, Woodhill, Henry County, Illinois), the son of Joseph Heath and Mabel Rising. The pedigree is Joseph <Joseph <Isaac <Isaac <Issac Heath (born 1625, Nazeing, Essex County, England; married 16 December 1650, Roxbury, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, died 29 December 1694, Roxbury) <William <Roger <John Heath (born about 1529, Tandridge, Surrey County, England).

http://www.familysearch.org has William Heath (born about 1682, Surry County, Virginia-died 8 November 1745 in Surry County). His pedigree is: Adam <William <Sir Robert Heath (born about 1590).

The Web site has five English individuals named "Robert Heath" and born between 1588 and 1592. The pedigrees of none are given.

http://en.wikipedia.org has Sir Robert Heath (1575-1649), Attorney General of England and founder of North Carolina. Neither his pedigree nor his descendants are given.

English tradition is to give the eldest son the name of his father. It is not unreasonable to investigate the possibility that William Heath (1682-1745) shares a common ancestor in Robert Heath (born about 1503) with Sarah Heath Palin.
