It's all about infection. You have 24 hours to get the baby out before the risk of death for mother and baby skyrocket. Standard of care is 24 hours after any confirmed leaking of amniotic fluid, and they did get the baby out within that time frame (though darn close to it) when he was a preemie and needed to stay in as long as possible.
