With membranes rupturing early, the most dire threat to the baby would be a prolapsed cord - which is much more likely when the baby is premature. Another possibility would be delivering precipitously, again much more likely - and dangerous - with premature labor, especially considering this is her fifth child. I know of no OB/GYN or midwife in his or her right mind who would suggest this lady get on a plane and fly a few thousand miles if she thinks her water may have broken.

Either she didn't make the call, or she blithely ignored her health care provider's advice. Neither speaks favorably of her decision making ability.
