| 98. This thread is like asking Fox news whether Fox news is biased |

Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 09:22 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
DU has gained many not-well-informed authoritarian types who happen to disapprove of Bush and/or the Iraq occupation. They will--of course--not recognize a rightward shift because they are convinced they are on the left.
They think the left is all about shouting down GLBT types who "whine" about their rights, jerking-off thinking about the death penalty, using censorship to better represent the 'will of the people', embracing Lou Dobbsian racism, etc.
When 70% of the country disapproves of Bush that disapproval is a center-right position. All American 70% positions are center-right. And there is nothing particularly left about thinking the Iraq occupation has been an epic fuck-up. That is also now the center-right position.
So welcome to Center-Right Underground.
The people to ask about how DU has shifted are the people who are no longer here. But they are not here to ask.
It seems that the republicans won the big argument. There are folks here who consider themselves left of center because they are marginally to the left of Dick Cheney who are at the core to the right of Richard Nixon in 1972.
