I find it interesting that everyone assumes that there are only two types of Democrats, liberals and blue dogs. There are not. You are arguing through the lens of a false dichotomy.
DLC types have entrenched themselves in liberal districts as well as conservative. Conservative districts have elected non-DLC Democrats many times. There is nothing about the DLC part that makes a candidate more palatable to the people...often the people have no idea they are voting in a traitor. All they see is "Democrat". It's OUR job to make sure they are real Democrats.
I would imagine populists could clean the clocks of Republicans in red districts, but since Schumer doesn't even consider populists, either, we are stuck with the DLC types and their pro-corporate, pro-Repubican ways.
But still, if we have the magical 60 Democrats, we do NOT have the magical 60 votes. For every DLCer, we need one more traditional Democrat becuase I promise you that the DLCers will jump ship so as to not be perceived as being "too liberal". In reality, they jump ship because they have the same paymasters as the Republicans.
