16. No, the The First ammendment DOES NOT grant a license to act without accountability
That's what 50 years of media regulation was all about- and why the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT set of policy choices that Obama has to make involves re-establishing those regulations and tying them closely in to broadcasting AND cable licensing requirements.
Plenty of companies would love to have these lucrative licenses- and would be willing to uphold public interest standards in programming and with much more honesty and integrity than the current owners do.
