47. I've said the same thing in the past
I actually supported Dukakis early in 1988 (during the primaries, no less), for many of the same reasons why Kerry was so popular: he's "electable", he's got a decent liberal record, but is not so much a firebrand/populist as a competent technocrat, he's from a liberal state, he's "electable", he's not an idealist but a realist, um, did I mention he's "electable"?

I'm also not overly inspired by his campaign, either. Given Shrub's horrible record, he should be mopping the floor with the bastard-- just like Dukakis should have been with Dubya's daddy. I still recall the SNL "debate" between John Lovitz's Dukakis and Dana Carvey's Bush when after a lackluster Bush response, all Dukakis could say was "can you believe I'm actually LOSING to this guy?"

Look at the polls now. They're a dead heat, with any leads being well within the margin of error, even though almost anybody can tell you that Shrub is a failed president in almost every respect. Kerry, running on his war hero record, is STILL having a hard time convincing the country he's "a better war president" than Shrub. Somehow trying to "out war president" the idiot-in-chief doesn't seem to be working.

But, on the other hand, Kerry ain't Dukakis. He's not known as a sprinter. He's definately a long distance guy, and there's still a couple of months ahead of us-- including what looks to be quite an uproarious RNC in NYC, with lots of protesters and mayhem.

IMHO, Kerry did a good job answering the assinine Swift Boat Liars yesterday, and is showing that he, too, can get mad, but that he's also capable of being clear-headed, and focusing on the finish line, and not just the next checkpoint.

I'm still not overly convinced about Kerry, but he did the right thing by letting the swift boat ads blow up in the GOP's respective faces. Most people have been completely put off by the ads-- even strong Repubs. That just goes to show how desperate ShrubCo and his cronies are this year.

Do NOT give up hope! Unlike Dukakis, Kerry knows how to finish a campaign, and will do so with a victory on November 2.
