I have a distant cousin whose great grandfather was also in the "business" as we call it (BOOZE). She collects the bottles that her grandfather's company made for bottling their whiskey. She has several best I know and they are all pre-prohibition, a few before 1900 I believe. I'll have to check with her to find out.

The "business" was BOOZE in the olden days, esp. with the Irish. Needless to say I am Irish myself, among other things thanks to my mother's side of the family.

It is quite the history and I sure did hear many stories. My father used to take us to Chinatown when we were kids in the 1950s. We'd buy sponge cakes and wander around Chinatown all day.

God, those were some good times! :)

Glad to find another old SFer as there aren't many of us left, just a few old Irish left from immigrant families that came after the Great Famine and sailed around the Cape Horn (as was my family's case).

The population of SF was only about 80,000 around 1880 or so. Needless to say, many of us are related to one another as the Irish tended to marry other Irish if possible. It didn't always work out that way much to my great grandmother's dismay.
