I think he is just comfortable with and knows himself and has no reason to go on a full out negative attack (I mean negative as in making nasty things up instead of discussing differences and records-lots of people consider him pointing out facts or defending himself as 'attacks' by him).

a big difference, to me, between him and Hillary is that Hillary tends to want to shout for attention while Obama, although he has the somewhat quieter and more consistent tone - gets more attention. i find that in real life conversations - you tend to listen to the calmer one even tho he/she may be quieter. the yeller just becomes background noise.
