Almost every white American of voting age has a similar experience. Nobody walks out of Thanksgiving dinner. You might fight and disagree and clench your fists and slam the silverware, but nobody hates their Dad because he says racist things. And, as you get older, you grind your teeth through it and hope he doesn't go off in company, etc. But you still love your father, and maybe you even understand.
And you work for something better.
Why didn't he leave the Church? Why don't YOU walk out on Thanksgiving dinner?
