will get enough pledged delegates alone to lock up the nomination. Super delegates will decide this nomination either way. The spin that pledged delegates are a reflection of the "people's will" is simply not true. The whole point of the pledged delegate system is to give greater power to smaller states to counter the larger delegate allocation of larger states. This has to come at the expense of voters: In California it takes ~10,000 people to appoint one delegate with average turnout and about 4600 to appoint one delegate in Wyoming with 100% turnout. If one is going to argue that the pledged delegate count is the metric that should guide super delegates, if the popular vote lead and pledged count differ, because nomination rules define delegates as the "official" unit of comparison then one must also adhere to the rules that say the super delegates can do whatever the hell they want, but this approach is certainly not the high road. I think Obama should be the nominee if he has won the popular vote and has a majority of pledged delegates, but if those numbers differ I want the discretion that the rules bestowed upon the supers to be utilized - not to automatically choose Clinton, but to truly consider the larger picture before making a choice.
