A lot of people of color and people with non mainstream gender identities have felt outside of the ideal America that we are all sold as children. 40 years ago, fire hoses and dogs were turned on African Americans, civil rights fighters were lynched and assassinated, in the south Black kids couldn't play on the same Little League team or swim at the same municipal pool as White kids.

America hasn't always been America to everyone. Let's acknowledge that while America has much to be proud of, there are plenty of reasons for various people to feel let down by this country. However, if we don't work to correct that which lets us down, we have only our selves to blame.
