9. Not everywhere in western VA
The urban areas in western VA went for Obama. He carried Danville with 78% of the vote, Martinsville with 71%; Lynchburg with 65%; and Roanoke with 57%. Counties adjacent to these cities were Obama territory as well. The stronghold for Clinton was the rural counties in the westernmost part of the state which have negligable African American populations. Hillary did well there because those counties fit her demographic profile with lower education and income levels, but also because they lack black voters who have voted overwhelmingly for Obama.
