In answer to your question, I think Kerry's foreign policy team should interview a wide spectrum of soldiers who have seen first hand the day to day effects of US policy. Remember the "hearts and minds" assertion of Vietnam policy? It never worked because it was disingenuous and nothing more than propaganda.
To really understand these things there is nobody more qualified to know how it effects an Iraqi family to have their door broken down than those who carry these things out (just one for example).
