59. Can someone explain to me why Powell is a go-to guy on ANYTHING?

What has he ever done that was so spectacular that he still has this much reputation and this much credibility, that candidates are still dropping his name? I don't hate the guy, I think he's smart and it's unfortunate that he sullied his own integrity and honor by consorting with BushCo, but--what elevates him to greatness, at this point?
