84. Hmmm, not so sure
I'm certainly no Lieberman defender, but this is a little misleading. For one thing, it only includes a portion of the amendment. I would take it a little more seriously if the ENTIRE amendment were quoted instead of one portion. The amendment was NOT filed yesterday--it is not listed in the Congressional Record. I would assume it is being filed today. Lieberman and Kyl did discuss the amendment yesterday (see today's Congressional Record pg. S11969-S11973). According to them, the actual purpose of the amendment is for the State Dept. to declare Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps as a foreign terrorist organization therby subjecting them to economic and diplomatic sanctions, not miltary action.

I know I get mad every time I hear Republicans claim that Democrats in Congress endorsed military action in Iraq to remove Saddam back in the late 90s when in fact their bill was aimed at getting him out through sanctions and support for the opposition in Iraq. Without seeing the whole text of the Lieberman/Kyl amendment, I would hate to see Democrats pull the same misleading stunt.
