117. The official third senario by the Soc Sec actuaries shows the system never goes broke - "everything"
on the table is stupid.

However raising the retirement age post the year 2030 to age 70 gradually over the next 36 years is a reasonable bargaining chip if it gets us the social security payroll TAX CUT meaning a 2% cut from a payroll tax - meaning the 1.45% for Medicare stays the same, and the employer's 6.2% stays the same, but the employee's 6.2% of wages tax drops to 4.2% of wages in return for the wage cap that protects the rich being removed. As the rich start to get those million dollar social security benefit checks the non-rich can smile and reflect on the fact that the excess payment relative to benefit paid the rich - we call that progressive - is such that all the non-rich got a tax cut! :-)

Obama actually sounds a bit scary when he says "everything is on the table" because of his history of getting small bills passed on a "bi-partisan" basis by agreeing to a GOP wish list that does not help the middle income or poor working man in order to get GOP votes.
