Shrum has very carefully made it someone else implying that, but not saying that Senator Kerry voted this for political reasons. For Senator Kerry, of all people, this really is unthinkable and it attacks something rare he has always had - integrity.
The facts are that it is far more likely that Kerry voted as he did for exactly the reasons given. His stated reason has never shifted. That reason is also far more consistent with: - Speaking out in January 2003 before the war and being labelled anti-war. (It wasn't subtle, it was all over the news when after the invasion when the war had the support of 70% of the people - he called for regime change at home.) - He led the efort on the Phase 2 stuff - The obvious anger when he spoke of Bush misleading the country to war - which then was NOT based on WMD, but not keeping promises on war of last resort.
