A year ago, I wrote about Jeremy Staat, a former NFLer who is determined to follow in the footsteps of Pat Tillman — without seeming to grasp all that that implies.

He seems unlikely to become an atheist Chomskyite who calls the Iraq War "so fucking illegal,"and let us hope he isn't killed by friendly fire, with the truth of both his life and death aggressively covered up.

As of this week, Staat is in Iraq.

He adheres to the philosophy that the only way to make sure the last guy didn't die in vain is to keep sending guys to die in vain:

“The way I look at it, we’re spreading freedom, and you have to support the troops and you have to support the war,” Staat, 29, told KITV in Honolulu on Tuesday as he prepared to leave from Hawaii. “You can’t just tell some Marine who just lost his buddy that we supported you but not the war, because in that case you’re basically saying that Marine, his buddy, just died for nothing. We’re one team.”

What an unspeakably sad and dangerous point of view, which is sadly and dangerously shared by his Commander-in-Chief.

Hey, the liberal light is always on at the Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy. Please stop by and say "hi!"
