13. The media has been complicit in supressing "dissonant" messages...
In systems theory, this is known as "homeostasis', the tendency for a system (family, corporation, govt.) to resist change and maintain the status quo; Rove just exploits this to the max. The only dissonant event the media was unable to block or alter to reflect Karl's desired spin was, IMO, Katrina. This was because Katrina was a dissonant event for the media itself, representing a battle between spin (system justification) and ratings (the media's self interest). Unlike the war, election fraud, wiretaps, etc, It was the one event that couldn't be ignored or spun away from reality to increase viewership.

In the past, the media has played a key role in unbalancing the status quo, i.e. challenging the forces of homeostasis, in reporting on the carnage and protests of the Vietnam war, Watergate, and to a lesser degree, Iran/Contra, and yes, even Monicagate (this created dissonance that was desired by the NeoCon forces that were out of power at the time).

DU has been instrumental in creating a voice for the dissonance needed to unbalance the current administration, and yet, we see in our own "circular firing squads", how DU reacts to dissonant messages internally as well...

What do you all think is the key unspinnable, unignorable dissonant message, issue, or event needed to unbalance this system that is destroying our democracy?

Karl's indictment might have been the one...
Cheney's indictment would definitely be one...
Short of that happening, I'm not sure what else there is, even with the growing discontent of the American people, in both Red and Blue states; hence, Karl's latest efforts at distraction...
Perhaps it's not just one issue or message, but the unbalancing of the status quo will come from a "death of a thousand cuts"?
