Gov. Matt Blunt (R) flew to the nation’s capitol today to lend support for President Bush’s proposal for a federal line-item veto.

The president is asking Congress for authority to strike individual items from a bill without having to veto the entire measure, a power that 43 governors already have.

Bush invited Blunt to participate in the meeting, along with governors from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, Louisiana and Virginia.
The Supreme Court struck down an earlier version of the line-item veto in 1998 as unconstitutional, because it let the president single-handedly change laws enacted by Congress.
Bush is now urging Congress to pass a modified version of the law that would allow him to send one or more items back to Congress for an up-or-down vote on elimination.
So this guy makes 7 Republicans and 1 Democratic governor. Satisfyingly bipartisan.
Wonder if this ongoing power grab by * for a line-item veto will fly under the radar.... Congress? Are you guys awake to this dick-tater-tot yet?
