Reply #17: This is the first poll to show a democrat beating Bush

All polls thus far have had democrats in statistical deadheats with Bush. The first was a Draftgore/Zogby poll in September: Gore 46 - Bush 48. After that we had several similar results with other dems. When Clark joined the race, he had better numbers but still tied Bush. His numbers were: Clark 49% Bush 46%. (The margin of error for these polls runs around 3 to 4 percent - hence these are all ties). Then a whole bunch tied Bush in various polls. And finally, a Newsweek poll last week showing Kerry 49% Bush 46% - still a tie.

Today's poll is the first to show a named democrat with a lead that exceeds the margin of error.

Whoo hoo! Nice trend, I'll take it.
