would be easier if we didn't always take, take, take from the rest of the world and throw our weight around as if we owned the whole thing. If we treated everyone equitably and gave everyone a fair shake.

Protecting the lives of Americans doesn't mean securing one of the largest oil reserves so that we can control it and kill uncounted numbers of people doing so...ours and theirs. This president has not protected American lives, he's put more of us in jeopardy than we have ever been in history, even during the Cold War. Mutually assured destruction on both sides kept the US and the USSR in a relationship of equals regardless of how chilly it was at times. That principle no longer holds true in the war on terrorism.
