the new CHairman is voted on by the party activists from all the 50 states at their annual meeting in Feb, I think it is.

The Clintons will again have a huge say in who's elected, I predict, as they did in 2000 when a deal was made with contender Maynard Jackson, first black mayor of Atlanta, who wanted to revitalize grassroots efforts by the Democratic Party. Maxine Waters and others strongly supported Jackson, but coming up to the wire (that is, DURING their annual meeting), a deal was struck giving Jackson the chair of a brand new department, something about Voting Rights or Grassroots Activism, or whatever. So he graciously bowed out -- and was never heard from again. I suspect they gave him an office in the basement, or a small closet or something, with no funding and no staff.
