minority communities -- especially African-Americans--are very against homosexuality and gay rights, even more than whites are. It is due more to the more traditional views of masculinity and femininity prevalent in minority communities than it is
religion, IMO. These folks know there are members of their own communities who are gay, but it is usually treated as a shameful secret that no one talks about.

This is not to say there aren't minorities who favor gay rights - of course there are. But overall opinion is overwhelmingly against it.

I guess the larger point is that we Democrats face a tough challenge with many within our own party on the issue of gay rights.
