That is the origin of one of the laws of Kashrut (the Jewish dietary laws, known as kosher), that you may not consume meat and dairy at the same time. It's in Leviticus (don't know where).

Observant Jews not only do not eat meat together with dairy, they wait at least an hour or two before consuming one after eating the other. They keep separate plates and utensils. The ultra-Orthodox even have separate kitchens (as do most synagogues).
