28. Feds arrest 2 on weapons charges in alleged militia plot (MT)
"KALISPELL (AP) - Three men who authorities say had ties to a militia group accused of plotting to assassinate public officials here were arrested Thursday on firearms charges, federal agents said.
The arrests stem from an investigation that began in February 2002 into a Flathead Valley group calling itself "Project 7." Authorities say they uncovered evidence that members of the group had amassed an arsenal of weapons and were plotting to kill local police, prosecutors, judges and other public officials. Before Thursday, however, only one man had been charged in connection with the investigation.
The FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives identified the men arrested Thursday as James R. Day, 60, Steven N. Morey, 44, and John W. Slater, 54, all of Kalispell. "
