.. are much more law-abiding than in other states? What makes you think they're unrepresentative?

There are 400k active licensees in TX (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_recor... ) and 750k active in FL (http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/stats/cw_monthly.html ). Out of an estimated 6M, that's a sample size of 20%- much better than most surveys.
