30. There are many responsible studies available, conducted by governemt agencies and others who were not influenced by grant money or agenda…………… Later in that post there is the statement: “Drowning in swimming pools far exceeds the number of childhood injuries and fatalities than guns”.
It is true there are many responsible studies available, conducted by government agencies and others who were not influenced by grant money or agenda…………..
This board seldom is the source of accurate information from those responsible studies.
About 17% of the 856 children (14 year olds or less) who drowned were in swimming pools, which means approximately 144 children drowned in swimming pools in 2005. http://www.nsc.org/research/odds.aspx

Since an estimated two nonfatal injuries occur for every firearm death then the combined injuries and fatalities in 2005 of 14 yr olds and under (children) is calculated to be just over 1,200 children. http://webappa.cdc.gov/sasweb/ncipc/mortrate10_sy.html

Fact: There are more than 8 times as many children that are injured and die by firearms than drown in swimming pools. There are about 1200 children that are injured and die by firearms each year compared to an estimated 144 children that drown in swimming pools. Also, since the total number of swimming pool drownings of people of all ages, not just children came to 856, that still doesn’t exceed the calculated 1200 childrens injuries and fatalities by guns.
Maybe if we drop the firearms “injury category” and compare deaths, not just children’s in swimming pools versus deaths by firearms.
Fact: According to the National Safety Council’s 2005 figures there were over 30,000 deaths by firearms discharge compared to 607 drownings in swimming pools.

Maybe the National Safety Council or National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (WISQARS) aren’t responsible government sources or……………. maybe the posters in the gungeon aren’t.
Your choice.
