| 81. Elective reporting of victimization seems to be the status quo. |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-06-09 02:38 PM by OneTenthofOnePercent
To answer your question first, many different crimes have no requirement to report the theft to police. This does not mean the the law veiws all such crimes as equivalent. Nor does it mean that opponents of legislation requiring mandatory crime reports veiws any crimes as equivalent In fact, I would consider it the status qou that victims of crime aren't necessarily legally bound to report such a crime.
Your question has been answered. Here's a few for you:
Would you consider a gun thief or a rapist a greater criminal threat? You seem to already acknowlege they are not "equal crimes"... I'm merely questioning your opinion of the inequality. Which is worse?
If you feel there should be different reporting requirements for these victims of different crimes... then which crime scenario (rape or gun theft) should require stiffer penalties for reporting negligence ans well as the shorter reporting period? (ie: Should rape victims be fined more heavily and only have 24 hours to report or should gun theft victims have the heavier burden of reporting with more haste?)
What other victims of other types ofcrime would you suggest punishing for not coming forward and reporting they were... well, victims?
